Damp Proofing

Concerned about damp? Buildfix’s solution can rid your home of rising damp, for good!

What is rising damp?

Rising damp is a common problem in homes that lack an effective damp proofing barrier. This issue arises when your home’s foundation walls absorb moisture from the ground, which is caused by a natural phenomenon known as Capillary Suction.

Left untreated, rising damp can have severe repercussions for both the structural integrity of your home and for its occupant.

Why damp proofing is essential for your home

Cosmetic issues

Damp proofing is essential for maintaining the aesthetics of your home. Without it, rising damp can cause paint to blister, flake or turn powdery. It can also result in tide-like yellow or brown stains on your walls.

Structural Damage

Damp proofing protects your home structurally. Absorbing water from the ground also means trapping salts and minerals. Over time, these can crystallise, expand and weaken masonry, compromising your home’s structural integrity.

Health risk

A lack of damp proofing can lead to moisture becoming trapped in your walls, and on the surface, creating an ideal environment for mould growth. This can trigger respiratory issues like asthma and allergies.

Recognising the potential imapct of rising damp and acting swiftly with damp proofing measures is vital for the health and durability of your home. Rising damp can silently affect your home in various harmful ways, making awareness and early detection key.

Implementing a damp proofing strategy promptly can significantly mitigate the risk of extensive damage and avoid steep repair expenses in the future. Protect your home’s structure and ensure a safe living environment by addressing damp at the first sign.

The most common damp proof injection methods

Chemical Injection DPC

Popular among professionals, this petrochemical-based damp proofing is mechanically injected, earning a reputation for its effectiveness due to its permeable characteristics. However, it presents significant challenges for homeowners, including flammability and the release of harmful fumes during curing. If undergoing this treatment while living in the home, expect lingering odours that might persist for weeks, potentially causing dizziness and discomfort.

Silicone Cream DPC

Often chosen by DIY enthusiasts, this method is manually applied using hand tools and is relatively easy to install, with the added advantage of being odour-free. But its efficiency is limited due to low permeability properties, especially in drier climates like Australia’s. The treatment works on fully saturated walls only, making it a seasonal solution at best.

Our damp proofing solution – DampBlock™

DampBlock™ is the latest advancement in solving rising damp in homes, eliminating the typical drawbacks associated with commonly used damp proofing methods.

By combining the highly permeable properties of chemical injections with the safety of non-hazardous silicone cream, DampBlock™ offers the best solution for homeowners grappling with rising damp.

Its next-generation, water-based formula targets affected areas, deploying an active ingredient in porous walls to permanently block rising damp without leaving behind any lingering odours or fumes, leaving your walls intact and protected.

The advantages of our damp proofing solution

Non-Invasive

DampBlock™ is injected at low pressure through small 1cm holes. After we’re done, holes are filled to blend with original surface.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it take for my walls to dry after damp proof treatment?

We employ our damp proofing solution, DampBlock™, to counteract the effects of rising damp in your walls by blocking capillaries, reducing the walls ability to draw moisture upwards. After this process, the existing damp in your walls will generally take 6-12 months to dry out.

After the damp proofing process, your walls will start to dry. However, this can result in natural salt crystallisation and residual dampness on the surface. To prevent the surface plaster from deteriorating and the appearance of damp, an application of a salt-blocking solution is recommended, which we are happy to assist with and discuss during your assessment.
Certainly not. DampBlock™ is non-hazardous and completely odourless, allowing you and your family to stay at home while we work.
